It is owned and run by Larry Kennedy in the manner of a typical old style village garage that repairs vehicles rather than simply fitting new units. Under Larry's supervision and with just a handful of trusted employees all manner of services are provided from fuel sales, MOT testing, tyre supply and fitting, repairs, bodywork, vehicle restoration and of course general counseling for the local community. It may be old fashioned and quaint but the garage has modern equipment and access to a wide range of services. Larry has a passion for racing which was reignited when Paul Tooms (who lives just 2 miles away) needed some help. Since then Larry has taken on running his own Lotus Elan in Historic Roadsports and sponsors the series. On the racing side, everything is done either directly by Larry or at least under his very direct supervision. Apart from running his own car (which is normally given the lowest priority) he supports the Elans of Paul Tooms (Guards) and Bob Rowe (HRS). He has access to a number of specialized businesses which allows him to get one off machining, manifold fabrication, corner weighting and general race set up done under his roof. Recent projects include a complete Elan S3 restoration, a 250 hp Turner MkIII (with all the associated upgrades to brakes, gearbox, axle etc), Mk 1 Mini, TVR 3000M restoration, VW Camper Van …. The list goes on - a Thames Trader van is halfway through a complete bodywork job at the time of writing this. It's quite usual to see old classics such as Mustang, Bristol, Roller, Mini's, on the ramps - but it's also quite likely that you'd find a Subaru or Citroen hatchback there too. It's worth a visit - but you need to call first as Larry is often out and about. |
